HRV

HRV vs RSA

With the increasing popularity of wearable tech such as Fitbit etc, for many Heart Rate Variability (HRV) has become a common term. But, before we become too concerned with our HRV readings, we could give due consideration to how we can improve them using our RSA response.

RSA is the natural tendency for the heart to speed up a little on the in breath and slow down a little on the outbreath. This effect can be used to take charge of the HRV!

Heartbeat and Breathing Synchronisation

To truly master and improve HRV measurements it is necessary to develop our RSA response. For this, we can now use a technique called Self-Synchronisation, which is synchronising the breathing with the heartbeat to a specific sequence.

The result is a ‘harmonisation’ between both functions, which gives automatic power and control over the HRV.
